Things we believe

November 20, 2008

The wait is over!

I can't believe the movie is finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  HOORAY!!!!!!

Wish I was going to the midnight release with my sisters tonight... but alas they are several states away... HAVE FUN SISTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow night at 10:25(midnight showing sold out before I could get there...doh!)

I know its oh so dorky but I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I just have to say that I totally don't like who they picked as Edward... hope I feel differently tomorrow.

Its going to be a long 24 hours!

Ok I'll now stop with the lame and rambling post.

Today I...

1.  Have had a bad bad bad headache all day.  And it won't go away.

2.  I hate having a headache that won't go away.

3.  Schlepped myself and baby boy to Walmart to pick up a photo order for a gift that I need to finish up this week.  They had no history of the order.  I left Walmart empty handed.  I think that's a first.

4.  Sat in the Dr's waiting room for over an hour for a ten minute appt.

5. Started crying when the sweet nurse asked if I'm struggling with the blues.  I hate when I'm having a bad day and people are extra nice to me.  But really I'm fine.

6. Drove to the Pharmacy to pick up a new RX... this pharmacy doesn't stock this medicine and could not fill the order.  Could they not call me and tell me this before I drove all the way there?

7.  Dropped my camera bag on the cement and bent the lens.  The lens! A new lens will cost $200. Ouch. Guess I won't be taking pictures for awhile.

8.  Schlepped myself and baby back to Walmart for the photos.  Picked up a "few" other necessities... $60 later I was ready to get out of there. Curses upon Walmart who gets way too much of my money.

8.  Did not get anything on my "to do" list done today.  The days are running out before I have to go back to work and there are still way too many things on my list.

9.  Burnt my finger with a glue gun at Young Women's tonight.

10.  Am really hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Sorry for the grumpy post.

one month

I'm a week and half behind but I didn't want to miss documenting this little moment in time.

At One Month:

Loves taking a bath    IMG_2176

Hates having his diaper changed

Sleeps with his little fists up on his face (in 80% of his ultrasound pictures his hands are covering his face... interesting to see that he still does this)

Loves his mama's milk... just prefers it from a bottle

When his binky falls out his cute little tongue pokes around trying to locate it

Has horrible gas on his tummy

Makes the sweetest little sighs in his sleep

Has lots of dark hair that is getting lighter every day

Has his daddy's nose and ears and has his mama's bright blue eyes

Loves to sleep on his daddy's chest

Has the most wonderfully pleasant personality

Will not sleep on his back... we gave in and let him sleep on his tummy.  I know its a no-no but otherwise he wakes himself up alll night.

Discovered his tongue and loves to click it

Lets you know the instant he's hungry... its one of the few times he cries... and if you don't get him food fast enough he has a small melt down

Celebrated his first Halloween as an adorable Monkey

Does NOT like his car seat... the other time he cries

Smiles the sweetest  little smiles while he's asleep... oh my goodness...melts my heart...

At his two week check up he had gained half a pound and had grown two inches... the Dr says he is looooong and lanky... so not sure where he got that from??

We ADORE our little guy. He is seriously the greatest thing that has ever happened to us.  I'm not sure how we lived without him all this time??  He was well worth the fight.  I'm sad that he's growing up so fast but its also so fun to see all the new things he learns every day... its a viscous cycle :-).  We thank Heavenly Father for him every day and are so grateful to be his parents.

We love you little man!

Monday Musings

1.  We took little one to the hospital on Friday for some tests... he can't keep most of his food down and he's fussy alll the time... the Dr. wanted to run some tests... came back that he has an "impressive" reflux esophagus... the Radiologist fed him 2 oz of barium and almost all of it came back up which is the case with most of his bottles... poor little guy doesn't feel well.  So in addition to the dairy issues we have this fun surprise as well... we have him on some medicine that will help and hopefully in a couple of days he'll be back to his pleasant little self... until then I'm going on little sleep and I'm a bit fussy myself  :)

2.  Today is rainy and cold and feels deliciously like Fall.  I'm loving every second of it.

3.  Yesterday was my first day back at church since the baby was born.  It was nice to be back.  I love how every thing always works the same... no matter where you go our church is familiar and works the same... same applies to taking six weeks off... I go back and its exactly as I left it... there's comfort in the familiarity of it.

4.  I have a ton of stuff going on this week. I'd much prefer to go back in to hibernation mode.  One of the things this week is our Young Women in Excellence program for the girls at Church.

Its our big end of year program where the girls are able to display and share some of the projects that they've been working on throughout the year.  Every year I'm asked to do the slideshow... we take pictures of all the activities that we do all year long and then in November we do a big end of year slide show for the girls and their parents... its one of my favorite things of the whole year..I love seeing how much we've done together and how much the girls have grown... and I love putting the slideshow together but it causes me major anxiety.  I feel stressed making sure that each girl is represented equally... which is just not possible since some of the girls are more involved than others.  But yet every year I start hyperventilating about a week before the program hoping that I don't hurt any of their sweet little feelings because they weren't in the slide show as much as another girl.

I also volunteered to do the refreshments this year... which is amazing since I can barely manage a shower these days...buts its all in an effort to ease my guilt for taking the last six weeks off.... the logic is the more stuff I volunteer for maybe they'll forget how useless I've been.

5.  I really wish I knew how to sew.  Its one of those domestic skills I missed out on in life.  I took classes in Home Ec so I knew the very basics but that's about it...  when I see the skills of my friend Leslie and others I get envious... especially at Christmas time... I would LOVE to be able to sew my gifts and Christmas stockings, tree skirts, etc.  Sigh.  Maybe someday.

My new favorite picture... makes my heart happy.

The Great Pumpkin Dessert

SP_AutumnMedley_PaperPumpkin A new recipe we tried this week... A fun twist on pumpkin pie... I like the cobbler top... definitely a keeper.  Try it.  You'll like it!

1 can (15 oz) solid pack pumpkin
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 pkg butter flavor cake mix
3/4 cup butter, melted

1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts  (I didn't use)
Vanilla ice cream or Cool Whip

Combine first five ingredients. Transfer to a greased 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle with cake mix and drizzle with butter. Top with walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a knife comes clean in the center. Serve with ice cream or Cool Whip. 12-16 servings.

For the solid pack pumpkin, it comes in a can and is just pumpkin without any seasoning. Just make sure you don't purchase pumpkin pie filling......you just need plain pumpkin.

Sprinkle on the cake mix dry. Then you pour over the melted butter. It all bakes up wonderfully...the bottom is like the texture of pumpkin pie and the top is kind of a crumbly crust

November 06, 2008

Today I had this whole long woeful post written... about baby's tummy troubles and how the Dr. thinks he has a dairy allergy and how they have me on a strict no dairy diet including no beef, milk, cheese, eggs, butter, etc until we get all his tests back... and how its been loooong days with his non stop fussing because his tummy hurts so much... and how my husband has been gone late every night this week... and my doom and gloom over the state of our Country with our newly elected president...and how depressed I am to go back to work

Blah... believe me, you're glad I deleted the post... I was throughly depressed after writing it....and you would have been depressed reading it.

But then tonight when little man gave me his very first smile... none of it mattered...  it doesn't matter that we have a new president that I didn't vote for.. and it doesn't matter that I don't get to have another glass of milk as long as I'm breast feeding... or the fact that I don't know how I'm going to juggle things when I go back to work... none of that matters... at least for tonight.

Kissing on him I was once again overcome with emotion... sometimes (most of the time) I just can't believe that he's really mine...sometimes I just hold him when he's sleeping and my mind can't fully comprehend that I get to keep him forever and ever...  it's almost too much for my heart to take...it feels like it will burst.  I get emotional when I think about how lucky I am to be his mom... not just a mom... but his mom... he seriously is such a cool little person.

So I'm sure tomorrow I'll go back to drowning my sorrows in Halloween candy... but tonight my life is perfect.

Election musings...

Election2008_button6-300x299 I haven't had time in the past couple of weeks to discuss the upcoming election like I would have liked to.

One of my New Years resolutions I made this year was to become more politically aware, informed and involved.  I wasn't able to quite stick to my other resolutions ( lose weight, keep my house spotless, work on my scrapbook, etc)... but I am happy I've tried to become more politically aware this year.

With the election tomorrow I feel there is only one choice for our country... and while John McCain is not my first choice for President I feel like he is a much better option than the alternative...  I cannot and will not support the other candidate.  I think he is wrong on so many levels for this Country.  I know there are people who read my blog who will not agree... and that's fine.. but please remember that this is my blog... my haven to voice my opinion... so feel free to disagree with me but please do so in a respectful manner.

And while I could go on and on about the right and wrongs of the candidates I won't... we've all heard it for a year now... we all have our personal beliefs and at this point in the game we hopefully know who we will each be voting for and there's no point beating a dead horse.

My good friend Steve sent out an email yesterday to friends and family encouraging them to vote.  I appreciated Steve's email on many levels... he was able to say everything that I felt but didn't have the right words to express myself.  I appreciate Steve for what he represents and for having the courage to share these things with others especially in a time when its not the popular thing to stand for.

So I asked Steve if I could share his email here.. and to Steve's email I say a big AMEN.

Steve's Email:

Friends and Family,

I have been thinking a lot during this election.  Honestly I am fatigued with hearing the slanted liberal media cover only the issues that would propel their own agenda.  I have some very strong conservative views which may differ from some of your views.

I am not writing this email to persuade any of you to align yourselves with all of my political opinions, but I feel for my conscience sake that I must write this email.  It is us, the American people who will decide the fate of the next 4 years, not the media or  the polls.  My primary purpose is to encourage all of you to take the time out of your day to vote. I hope that when you do vote that you consider all the issues.  Vote only after meditation and prayer.  Remember the greatness of this country and God's miraculous hand in its origination.

I feel very strongly that God inspired the Founding Fathers in every meeting and every written word penned during the creation of the Constitution.  I believe that although the birth of this nation was over two hundred years ago the basic rights, liberties, delineation of balance of powers, capitalist economy, strong militia, and small government involvement in individual lives' is still relevant today and does not need a 'fundamental change.' It infuriates me to hear Obama imply that there are many problems with the Constitution and that it needs to be overhauled.

We are the United States of America, we should not strive to take on the ideals and appearance of Europe.  Granted there are serous issues with our economy, education, health care and many other things that need improvement but these changes should be done incrementally without the sacrifice of our rights.

The idea of a free market economy should not be bludgeoned to death by a 'redistribution of wealth.'  The answer is not socialism!  We only need reflect and turn back history's pages to see where the doctrines of Carl Marx got the world.

As you all know I come from a very religious Christian background.  I believe strongly in the sanctity of marriage betweena man and a woman, in the defense of our freedom and country, in the protection of the unborn child, in honesty and morally correct living. The strength of our country and therefore the strength of our future lies in the family.  All things that I have objectively seen and heard about Sen. Obama threatens these standards.  Please consider what you have heard about his plans.  If you are considering voting for Obama consider his chilling ties and relationship to radicals and terrorists.  Remember how he voted for and was ok with killing babies that were born due to failed abortions.  Understand that he desires to choke off your right to own and bear arms for the protection of your family and property.  If you are thinking about writing in someone on the ballot or voting along non-partisan lines, please understand this:  the country needs your vote and is depending on you!

Don't throw your vote away just to make a statement, make your vote count.  I really do believe that we need to vote for who will do the least amount of damage to our country. McCain is not who I would have chosen to be President but I feel he is our best option.  Please make every effort over the next 2 days to get out and vote.  Be prayerful.  Let God guide your decision.

Sincerely,
Steve A. Bentley

I'm so thankful to be an American!
